My Review:

The first book in the Deputy Laney Briggs series is an intriguing romantic suspense with lots of twists and turns. Laney Briggs suddenly finds herself in hot water when a dead body turns up and her ex, Texas Ranger Gunnar Wilson decides to stick his boots into the town’s first murder case.

The steady to fast paced plot keeps readers guessing with lots of suspense, action and romance.  The tension steadily builds throughout the story as the plot thickens and more suspects are added to the list and with each twist the case gets more complicated ensuring that the reader gets caught up in the story. The characters are strong, compelling and grab the reader’s attention from the beginning.

The chemistry between Laney and her ex, Gunnar burns hotter than the Texas sun throughout the story and the romance has sparks flying everywhere as the couple clashes at every turn. The relationship is also complicated by the fact that Lacey is engaged to the local veterinarian and then there’s a third suitor lurking in the shadows which adds lots of spice to the story as each one of them have different personalities and history with the deputy.  Readers can’t help but empathize with the Deputy when the investigation keeps leading her in circles to the very people she thought she could trust and being torn between three sexy men well I don’t know if that’s such a hardship.

I enjoyed this multi-twisted plot with its multitude of suspects although I did find some aspects of the story to be a little unreal.  But the intriguing story line, snarky dialogue and was still a quite enjoyable and fun read with sexy cowboys.
