Blurb:
COUNTDOWN TO CRISIS
A serial killer strikes every twelve hours. A vampire takes lives at random. At first glance, these tragic incidents seem unrelated. But Special Investigations Unit agents Sam Ryan and Gabriel Stern trace them both back to a military base known as Hopeworth. Is the murder spree part of a cover-up? And are the vampire killings less by chance and more methodical?
The investigation takes an eerie, personal turn when Sam discovers a connection between herself and the victims—and a clue to her own mysterious origins. With the violence escalating and the danger drawing closer to home, the stakes are raised and the mission changes from seeking justice to ensuring Sam and Gabriel’s own survival. And the one person who seems to hold all the answers—about Hopeworth, about Sam’s past—is a mystery man she isn’t sure she can trust. They share a psychic link through her dreams, and he once saved her life, but he may just be the greatest enemy humankind has ever known.
My Review:
Gabriel and Sam are investigating a serial killer that strikes every twelve hours and a vampire that kills at random, the two seem unrelated but Sam not convinced and while searching for connections, she finds connections to her own mysterious past in this thrilling urban fantasy.
This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers on their toes with lots of thrill and excitement as Gabriel and Sam investigate the crimes. The author draws the reader deep into the story with well written scenes and details, well orchestrated suspense and strong compelling characters that grab the reader’s attention. The plot arouses curiosity, the action scenes are exciting and believable and the suspense has the reader hovering on the edge of anticipation throughout the story.
Sam has no idea what to think about Gabriel’s insistence that he will not work with a partner, but she getting tired of the way he’s treating her, cold one minute, sort of friendly one and then acts like he cares? There is plenty of excitement for the reader to get caught up in throughout the story as they continue to clash off and on through the entire investigation, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t on to something, which puts them both in the crosshairs of the enemy, one that is way more than what they seem.
Their investigation also leaves Sam with lots of questions concerning her own personal investigation into her past and just where she came from and her strange abilities that have suddenly showed up in her life. Bombs, serial killers and killer vampires keep them both running on empty, so there is never a dull moment in this fascinating Spook Squad story and once started, I couldn’t put the book down until I had read the very last page and will be waiting – very impatiently – to find out what Sam is going to do next, especially after that sensational conclusion.
