Review of Black and Blue by Gena Showalter

Best-selling author Gena Showalter is known for her paranormal romances, and on one level I’m saddened that it has taken me this long to read her work. The Otherworld Assassin series is my first foray into one of Showalter’s creative worlds where paranormal beings coexist with humans, albeit not always peacefully. It looks like this series is a spinoff from her Alien Huntress series, but from my experience, it wasn’t necessary to have read any of the books from that series before starting…

Review of Cold Day in Hell by Jerrie Alexander

Jerrie Alexander’s Lost and Found, Inc. is a great new romantic suspense series, and the first book, Hell or High Water won me over very quickly. Now, after reading Cold Day in Hell, I’m definitely a fan.  I don’t think you necessarily have to read Hell or High Water before jumping into this second installment, but doing so will really enhance your enjoyment and appreciation of the overall scope of the series and give you more insight into the backstories of this great…

Review of Olivia Twisted by Vivi Barnes

Olivia Twisted is a great YA novel that provides a modern day spin on Charles Dickens’ classic Oliver Twist. You don’t need to read Oliver Twist to enjoy and appreciate the story though. It’s been so long since I read Dickens’ novel about a young orphan, Oliver, who becomes entrenched in the dark underworld of thievery that I can barely remember the plot. However, each chapter starts with a quote from Oliver Twist that foreshadows the events and reminded me of the…

Review of Hard As It Gets by Laura Kaye

Okay, all you fellow romantic suspense readers out there, get ready for Laura Kaye’s smexy new Hard Ink series. Her debut novel, Hard As It Gets was just released, and so far, I’m impressed with the storyline and the loyal cast of characters who collaborate to solve an ongoing mystery behind a major cover up that has already destroyed the careers and reputations of five ex-special forces soldiers who are determined to clear their names.

Becca Merritt  steps out of her comfort…

Review of The Curse Keepers by Denise Grover Swank

This was my first time reading Denise Grover Swank’s work and The Curse Keepers, the first novel in her new urban fantasy series is fan-freaking-tastic!  After reading the book’s description and discovering the setting was in my native state of NC, I just knew it was going to be one I liked, and it turned out to be even better than I expected.

This book appealed to me on so many different levels:

 The Setting/History/Native American Myths

The Outer Banks…

Review of Battle-Tested Love by Lynda Bailey

Escape, not love, is the only thing on Darcy Williams’ mind when she gets kidnapped and taken out of Carson City, Nevada by a handsome but dangerous-looking man who takes her car to get to his intended destination, Oregon.  However, everything changes, when her abductor becomes her protector and saves her from the clutches of some lecherous men with plans to harm Darcy.

Ben Gallegher doesn’t need Darcy, only her car, but he isn’t the type of man to walk away from a woman being hurt,…

Review of Saving Dallas Series by Kim Jones

If you enjoy biker romances, then you should consider reading the Saving Dallas series that centers around the erotic and intense love story of real estate mogul Dallas Knox and President of the Devil’s Renegades MC, Luke Carmical. These two individuals seem to live in completely different worlds and would most likely never have met until Dallas gets lonely after a recent break-up, goes out looking for company, and ends up as a damsel-in-distress until her knight clad in leather intervenes…

Review of Hard Target by Kay Thomas

Romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres, and Kay Thomas’ Hard Target has all of the elements of this genre that appeal to me and make the Elite Ops series one I plan to follow.

Thomas has created a compelling plot with mystery, suspense, and romance that increasingly builds in complexity and tension and is chockfull of action, which made this a fast and engaging reading experience. I had a difficult time finding a stopping place because I was so eager to see…

Review of A Little Too Much by Lisa Desrochers

I was happy to have the opportunity to review the much anticipated sequel to Lisa Desrochers’ A Little Too Far, and just like the first book, A Little Too Much does not disappoint!

If you haven’t read  A Little Too Far, which introduces the main character, Alessandro Moretti, whose story is featured in A Little Too Much, I strongly recommend you do so before reading this book and perhaps this review.

Alessandro is a handsome young man who is filled…

Review of LIE TO ME by Chloe Cox

When I think about how to describe my reaction after reading this beautifully written love story between Harlow and Marcus, the first adjectives that come to mind are intense, powerful, and bittersweet.  Themes of love, loss, abandonment, betrayal, and redemption are all intricately woven into this emotionally-gripping plot that will tugged on my heart-strings and left me breathless by the end.

Harlow Chase’s character is “real” the type of young woman you…

Review of Everlasting by Tmonique Stephens

When I read the first book in this series, Eternity, I compared it to riding a roller coaster blindfolded because of its intensity, and Everlasting is just the same. Immediately I was immersed back into this creative, imaginative realm of vengeful ancient Egyptian gods wreaking havoc in the human world.  I actually went back and reviewed Eternity because there are so many characters and story threads that have been introduced, I wanted to make sure I remembered the crux…

Review of Waking Up Dead by Emma Shortt

I really enjoyed reading Waking Up Dead, a post-apocalyptic zombie novel that provides a morbidly fascinating look at the stark reality and morality issues that survivors continue to face even two years after an outbreak that decimated society. The book successfully blends horror and romance together into an adrenaline-packed narrative that grabbed my attention from the start and kept me enthralled until the final sentence.

The protagonist of the book is Jackson Hart, a…

Review of Wilde for Her by Tonya Burrows

Wilde for Her is the second book in the Wilde Brothers Security series that focuses on five brothers who have started their own security company. Although I didn’t have the opportunity to read the first book, Wilde Nights in Paradise, I had no difficulty in reading this book as a stand alone.  Burrows provides enough description of all five brothers and their backstories to help me get to know each character as an individual and to see the undeniable love and loyalty these…

Review of The Howling Heart by April Bostic

The Howling Heart is a sweet paranormal romance about the depth of love between two individuals from vastly different social worlds who must overcome almost impossible obstacles to find their way to each other. Along the way, this young couple will have to risk everything that’s familiar and safe to them to find happiness, and a pervading question throughout the book is  how much Paige is willing to sacrifice for a man who loves her so deeply, it’s almost heartbreaking at…
