Tell us about your book(s) I currently write a series titled, Chef ReCee Jay & Friends, and it talks about a fictitious cook who has furry friends in the woods! The children's picture books will mostly focus on the animal characters, with the mention of ReCee peppered throughout the series. It will feature topics that come up in everyday life in hopes to be a great conversation starter between adult and child.

Where did the idea of your (latest) book come from? Veggie's Bully was inspired by a lot of things I've went through as a child and still experience as an adult. Sometimes, it seems, that no matter what I do, someone is never satisfied with something I said or did. The lesson I wanted to put out there is that it's important to be confident, in yourself but not arrogant and to continue to follow your passions without fear of ridicule!

Who and what inspires you to write your books? My entire family inspires me, but especially my father. He was a great man

Each author has their own fascinating journey. I'm not sure. I just know as a young child, reading was a passion of mine, and I wanted to create stories just as exciting as the ones I read. Everyone I go, whether from school to work, I'm always volunteering to write something about someone or an event. It's addictive. I think I may the only person who finds typing therapeutic. I take typing tests online for fun.

How did you begin writing? The most pleasant surprise is getting paid for doing what I love! The downside, of course, are the negative critics.

What has been the most pleasant surprise about being a writer? How about the most unexpected downside?
The most pleasant surprise is getting paid for doing what I love! The downside, of course, are the negative critics.

Do you have any particular writing routines or rituals? I churn out my best writing work under pressure or a small deadline. It's a gift and a curse.

Do you write in order? Yes, I have to. I can't see it done in any other way.

What is on your playlist when you write? I used to write while listening to music, but that had to stop. Music relaxes me too much, whether it's soft R&B or bass pounding Hip & Hop...the last thing I want to do is sit down when music is playing! I either want to dance or close my eyes and let my thoughts wander.

Favorite writing snack? I don't eat while I write.

Where do you like to write? It doesn't matter where I write, as long as it's white noise surrounding me. A TV lightly playing or even the hum of a ceiling fan is most likely where you'll find me typing away.

Do you have any advice for authors wanting to publish? It takes a lot of patience to decide you want to write and even more patience if you take the self-publishing route like I did. You have so many roles to play when you're writing and marketing your own materials. It's definitely not for the faint of heart! It takes a lot of risk taking and learning from every mistake you make.

Are you currently working on anything else? I have an adult book line under the pen name Careese Mills and I'm always in the works of something else! The key is finishing it!

Who is your favorite character and why? I love Uncle Bear! He reminds me of my own favorite Uncle George! They both are calm and quiet, slow to anger, and always very generous.

Favorite book of all time? The Dollhouse Murders by Betty Ren Wright

Breakfast says a lot about a person, what is your perfect breakfast? My perfect breakfast is banana and chocolate chip pancakes with turkey sausage and a great cup of joe! With orange juice...and cold water.

Please tell us in one sentence why we should read your book It'll remind you to tell someone else to love yourself no matter what!
