Review: The Fire Within (The Nephilim #2) by Dana Marie Bell

Blurb:

(Off Goodreads)

She will set his world ablaze.

Detective Dante Zucco has been tasked with bringing a Shemyaza to justice. As a seris Nephilim, his inner fire comes in handy in battle, but not in love. He's been burned before, but maybe this time he'll find a blaze that matches his own.

One of the families of the human victims has hired Elizabeth Rand, PI, to investigate the murders. It's all Dante can do to keep his hands off the alluring, stubborn woman. A single glance from her gray eyes, and Dante goes up in flames.

Beth suspects Dante is one of the Nephilim, angelic warriors bound to hunt down the evil Shemyaza who haunt the night and feed off the innocent. If the murderer she's tracking is a Shem, then keeping a Nephilim close would be only logical. She agrees to work with the hunky detective, unaware of his growing feelings for her.

When Beth gets too close to finding out the truth behind the Shem kills, her life is put in danger, forcing Dante to protect her the only way he can: with fire.

My Review:

Thrilling action and riveting suspense keeps reader entertained throughout this paranormal romance.  Detective Dante Zucco finds himself teaming up with private investigator, Elizabeth Rand when a young woman is found murdered.  And he has a few problems with that, the murderer is not human and he can’t seem to keep his hands off the alluring stubborn woman.

This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers on their toes with lots of action, suspense, drama and romance. The author brings this intriguing world to life with well written scenes and details that capture the imagination and the well orchestrated action scenes are exciting and believable as the suspense scenes draw the reader deeper into the story by arousing lots of curiosity. The characters are strong, compelling, easily related to and grab the reader’s attention right from the beginning.

The attraction between Dante and Beth has sparks flying everywhere and the sex scenes are hot and steamy, but it‘s the relationship that really adds lots of spice to the story as it starts off with the two not liking each other very much until they both find themselves saying “what’s up with this?” as they question their attraction which leads to some snarky and fun conversations with each other. The interconnection with the other characters in the story also adds depth and spice to the story as which seems to be leading readers somewhere with every conversation which just invites the reader to want to know more.

The author has created a fascinating world of Nephilim with some refreshing different features and some captivating characters that intrigue as well as entertains.  I haven’t read the first one…yet, and I thoroughly enjoyed this one, so you can certainly read it without reading the first one, but the story does reference the previous events so I wish I had read it first.  I am also looking forward to reading more books in this series as I can’t help but feel that there is an underlying connection to the evil happenings of the Shems, like there is definitely a bigger picture that is just out of sight.

About Dana Marie Bell:

(Off author’s site)

Dana Marie Bell wrote her first short story when she was thirteen years old. She attended the High School for Creative and Performing
Arts for creative writing, where freedom of expression was the order of the day. When her parents moved out of the city and placed her
in a Catholic high school for her senior year she tried desperately to get away, but the nuns held fast, and she graduated with honors
despite herself. She's now a USA Today best-selling author with Samhain Publishing and Carina Press.

Dana has lived primarily in the Northeast with a brief stint on the US Virgin Island of St. Croix. She lives with her soul-mate and husband
Dusty, their two maniacal children, an evil ice-cream stealing cat and a bull terrier that thinks it’s a Pekinese. She's been heard to
describe herself as "vertically challenged" and "a lapsed brunette." Dana also suffers from ankylosing spondylitis (a progressive
inflammatory arthritis that primarily affects the spine), and can be seen walking with a cane or tooling around in her mobility scooter.
Her condition was the inspiration for Belle's hip injury in Steel Beauty.
