Release Day Review: The Heart of Christmas (Whiskey Creek #7) by Brenda Novak

Blurb:

Just call her Christmas Eve… Eve Harmon has always enjoyed Christmas, but this year it reminds her of everything she doesn’t have. Almost all her friends are married now, and that’s what Eve wants, too. Love. A husband and kids of her own. But the B and B she manages, and even Whiskey Creek, the small Gold Country town where she was born and raised, suddenly seem…confining. Eve’s worried that her future will simply a reflection of her past. There’s no one in the area she could even imagine as a husband – until a handsome stranger comes to town. Eve’s definitely attracted to him, and he seems to have the same reaction to her. But his darkly mysterious past could ruin Eve’s happily ever after – just when it finally seems within reach. And just when she’s counting on the best Christmas of her life!

My Review:

A handsome man has come to town and Eve’s attracted to him and feels that he could be the one but his dark mysterious past could put an end to her hopes for the best Christmas ever in this captivating contemporary romance.

This steady to fast paced plot captivates readers with an emotionally gripping tale of suspense and romance. The author brings the story to life with well written scenes and details and the well orchestrated suspense ensures that the reader wants to know how Eve and Rex’s romance turns out. The characters are strong and compelling and along with the charming small town atmosphere of family and friends draws the reader deeper into the story.

Eve’s attraction to Rex burns hot from first meeting and only gets hotter the more she falls for him and Rex feels the same way, but while he can give in to his desire for her, he can’t give her anything more due his past. The reader can’t help but get caught up in all the emotional turmoil that follows the couple and the hope the builds despite the situation. Eve deserves the happiness that she wants and every reader can certainly relate to the way she feels, but it is really Rex that captures the heart in this story because he tortures himself with a tragic incident from his past.

Spine tingling tension builds throughout the story as the reader waits to discover what will happen between Eve and Rex but also the danger that follows him to Whiskey Creek. The story brings such a happy feeling of community when Eve and her friends do what they can to help Rex with his situation and expect nothing in return…after all that is the “Heart of Christmas.” I was completely caught up in this emotionally gripping and satisfying holiday romance from the very beginning and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

#8 This Heart of Mine (March 31, 2015)

About Brenda Novak:

It was a shocking experience that jump-started Brenda Novak’s bestselling author career.

“I caught my day-care provider drugging my children with cough syrup and Tylenol to get them to sleep while I was away,” Brenda says. “It was then that I decided that I needed to do something from home.”

However, writing was the last profession she expected to undertake. In fact, Brenda swears she didn’t have a creative bone in her body. In school, math and science were her best subjects, and when it came time to pick a major in college, she chose business.

Abandoning her academic scholarship to Brigham Young University at the age of 20 in order to get married and start a family, Brenda dabbled in commercial real estate, then became a loan officer.

“When I first got the idea to become a novelist, it took me five years to teach myself the craft and finish my first book,” Brenda admits. “I learned how to write by reading what others have written. The best advice for any would-be author: read, read, read….”

Brenda sold her first book, and the rest is history. Many of her novels have won or placed in contests such as the National Reader's Choice, the Bookseller's Best, the Write Touch, the Award of Excellence and the Beacon Award for Published Authors.
