Our Beck Valley Book review of Miss Ridley & the Warlock (Secret Realms)

Our Beck Valley Books review of Miss Ridley & the Warlock (Secret Realms) - (Historically Inspired Fantasy Romance) by Diana Green

"This was such a lovely story to read, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with all the characters. With the story being set in the 19th century it added even more charm appeal to me and it turned into a quick read.

Gemma had found herself jobless and almost penniless due to her father's writings which had caused widespread scandal and was classed as treason. Desperate to find alternative emploment with someone who would not hold it against her she found a placement as a teacher at Rook Hall for the widowed Squire, Allan Kenrick, and his two children, Edwina and Mathew. Gemma quickly became fond of both children and the fondness carried over for the Squire and herself too. Yet all is not as it seems there, a powerful dark magical force holds onto the Hall that also weighs down on the Squire. Gemma is told not to go past the wall boundaries after the sun goes down but is shielded from the truth of what lies beyond.

Edwina and Matthew were adorable and made me smile a number of times throughout the story. I loved the instant connection between Gemma and the Squire and how Gemma tried to tell herself that she was there for the children and not her own heart. I really enjoyed both the fantasy and the romantic aspects of the story as well as reading along as the family and Gemma's bond grew. But will they be safe or will their lives be at risk from this hidden dark magic?

A pleasure to read with wonderful characters. This is the second book that I have read by Diana Green and again I find myself transported into the story, eagerly reading each page."
