Blurb:

(Off Goodreads)

Lately, Skye Collins has been unable to shake the feeling that she's being watched. After a lifetime spent hiding her true nature, she knows that any unusual attention is something to be wary of. And the only attention she's been receiving lately is from the intense and attractive Jason McVale.

Jason claims to know things about Skye that can't be true, and it's obvious he's hiding secrets of his own. Yet despite herself, Skye can't resist the attraction between them, and her surrender will set in motion a chain of events that will have consequences for everyone she holds dear.

Gradually, Jason convinces Skye that she has to trust him if she is to solve the riddle of her past and learn the truth about her power. But believing Jason means that her entire life has been based on a lie.

As her enemies gather strength and the danger increases, Skye is forced to accept who she really is. Will she risk everything and fight for those she loves? Or save herself and let them be destroyed by the forces of darkness?

My Review:

This paranormal romance keeps readers guessing with lots of suspense, action and romance.  Werewolves and witches lives are interconnected and when the bonds are broken lives are destroyed.  Alpha Jason has to find his pack witch in order to save his pack from the curse. Skye has repressed her magic for years, she’s afraid of her power, but if what Jason says is true, embracing her powers may be the only thing that saves not only his pack, but hers and her twins as well.

This steady to fast paced plot builds lots of spine tingling anticipation as Jason and Skye try to save the pack and discover a disturbing evil plot that has destroyed lives and will destroy a lot more if it’s not stopped.  As the plot thickens Skye learns that what’s she’s been told about her past doesn’t completely add up to the truth.  The author brings the story to life with vivid imagery, details and strong bewitching characters that grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning.

The attraction between Skye and Jason radiates from every page with some hot and steamy sex scenes but the relationship has lots of complications including untrained and unwanted magic, emotional issues and evil rogue covens that would like nothing better than to become the ultimate power. The author conveys the emotions of the characters with such vibrant intensity that the reader can’t help but relate and get caught up in the story.

The conflict is so huge that it will take a group effort to have a chance of the good guy coming out on top which adds lots of depth to the story as each character plays their part in the drama.

I found this to be a fascinating and exciting read with intriguing characters that I couldn’t put down.  I don’t know if the author plans any more stories involving these characters but I would certainly like to read more about what happens to some of them.

About Leisl Leighton:

(Off author’s site)

I am a tall red head with an overly large imagination who can talk the hind leg off a donkey, so it came as no surprise to my family that I completely fell in love with Anne of Green Gables when my Nanna gave it to me for my tenth birthday. I too was a dreamer, who at times was overly dramatic and lived my life vicariously through the worlds written by others and in my own dreams.

I read voraciously as a child and still do, everything from fantasy (Raymond E. Feist, Katherine Kerr, Jani Wurts), paranormal (Nalini Singh and Sherrilyn Kenyon), sci-fi (Anne McAffrey, Douglas Adams), YA (Hunger Games, Vampire Academy, Fallen, Twilight, Harry Potter), romantic historical (Anne Gracie, MM Kaye, Johanna Lindsey and LaVyrle Spencer) and romantic suspense (you can’t go past Nora Roberts), not to mention the classics (Austen, Bronte, Louisa May Alcott, LM Montgomery and of course, Shakespeare) as well as many others – the list could go on (I did say voracious!) As if this wasn’t enough, I did a double major in English Literature and Drama – two majors with more reading than pretty much any other. My friends thought I was nuts. I just thought it was normal.

My imagination and overly dramatic side led me toward drama and music. I come from a family of singers and musicians, and I got this gene in spades. If I’m not talking, I’m singing. I turned to the stage for a while, acting, singing and dancing (the latter not so well) as well as script writing, stage managing and musical directing. I loved every minute of it. But being a stolid Capricorn at heart, and liking to be in charge, I started up my own Theatre Restaurant with a couple of partners where I could indulge my creative side and maintain some certainty. After closing down the theatre restaurant for personal reasons (having run it successfully for six years) and starting a family, I internalised my creativity and started writing the stories I’d always dreamed.

Now I get to live a part of every day in the fantasy worlds my brain creates at night when I’m asleep, which is a joy I love sharing with others. I love it when my characters (vampires, werewolves, shifters, witches, warlocks, angels, fairies, elves, timetravellers, gods and goddesses, inter-dimensional beings and hunters, not to mention rock stars, music producers, sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers and friends) take me on a journey with them and allow me into their passions, desires, their hopes and dreams, not to mention their hot and sizzling romances. I love a happy ever after.

In my normal life, I raise my kids with my lovely hubby, deal with my overly spunky dog (what did I expect when I called her Buffy!) and spend time with my loving and supportive family and all my understanding friends – who still think I’m a little nuts. I sometimes sing in a choir or share singing lessons with my mum, tinkle on the piano once in a blue moon and work as a swim teacher. I love Sci-Fi chanel, Dr Who, Dexter, Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf, Sanctuary, Wharehouse 13, comic hero movies and of course pretty much everything Joss Whedon is part of. People often ask me when I get the time to write and I say to them, if you love something, you find a way to do it. I love writing… enough said!
