Kit Colbana: assassin, thief, investigator extraordinaire. Now broken. She always expected her past to catch up with her but never like this. Haunted by nightmares and stripped of her identity, she’s retreated to Wolf Haven, the no-man’s land where she found refuge years before. But while she might want to hide away from the rest of the world, the rest of the world isn’t taking the hint.
Dragged kicking and screaming back into life, Kit is thrust head-first into an investigation surrounding the theft of an ancient relic...one that she wants nothing to do with. Her instincts tell her it’s a bad idea to just leave the relic lying about, but finding it might be just as bad.
Forced to face her nightmares, she uncovers hidden strength and comes face to face with one of the world’s original monsters.
If she survives the job, she won’t be the same...and neither will those closest to her.
My Review:
The third book in the Colbana Files is an intriguing urban fantasy full of drama and suspense.
Assassin, thief, investigator extraordinaire, Kit Colbana has retreated to Wolf Haven broken, haunted by nightmares and stripped of her identity. But she’s dragged kicking and screaming back into life as she is thrust into an investigation surrounding an ancient relic, one she really wants nothing to do with. As she is forced to fight her nightmares, she uncovers hidden strength and comes face to face with one of the world’s original monsters.
This steady pace plot is full of suspense, drama, action, emotional turmoil and magic. The author brings it all to life with well written words that paint vivid images of every scene and great detail of the personalities and emotions of the strong and compelling characters that make it easy for the reader to feel as if they are part of the story.
There is some romance as the Kit and Damon try to overcome the past and you can almost feel the heat of the attraction between the two. All the characters contribute greatly to the story and the author makes it feel as if you know them all really well.
The story is intriguing and has some unexpected twists that keep the reader guessing and the battle scene at the end was well orchestrated and believable. The author spices things up even more with some unique and interesting twists to mythology that adds a refreshing spin to the supernatural world.
The author has created an entertaining fantasy world with wonderful characters that capture the reader’s imagination and ensure that they want more. I have not read the first two in the series, but the author did a great job of giving me just enough insight into the previous books for me to follow the story and without giving too much information. I am definitely adding this author and series to “to read”list.

Colbana Files series:
About JC Daniels
(off author’s site)
J.C. Daniels is the alter ego of author Shiloh Walker and was created basically because Shiloh writes like a hyperactive bunny and an intervention was necessary. J.C. is the intervention. The name… J.C. Daniels is a play off of the three people who pretty much run Shiloh’s life.
Professional Bio
J.C./Shiloh Walker has been writing since she was a kid. She fell in love with vampires with the book Bunnicula and has worked her way up to the more…ah…serious works of fiction. She loves reading and writing just about every kind of romance. Once upon a time she worked as a nurse, but now she writes full time and lives with her family in the Midwest. She writes urban fantasy, romantic suspense and paranormal romance, among other things.
About Me…seriously
They always say to tell a little about yourself! I was born in Kentucky and have been reading avidly since I was six. Writing became more my focus in middle school-I had a very boring teacher and voices in my head. There was also a book that didn’t end the way I wanted it to end-don’t ask me the book, because I don’t remember. I just remember I started writing. I never stopped.
About me now… hmm… I’ve been married since I was 19 to my high school sweetheart and we live in the mid-west. I started writing full time in 2004, which lets me write during the day and still devote more time to my family- three adorable children who are growing way too fast and my husband who doesn’t see enough of me.
I like to read. There’s a shocker!
This list will vary, a lot, but personal faves include Nora Roberts, Stacia Kane, Ilona Andrews, Kresley Cole, Julie James, but my all time favorite is SL Viehl. She writes sci fi and romance, but my favorite of hers is the sci fi series Star Doc. If you haven’t read them, I think you’re missing out.
Something cool…
When I was in nursing school, a friend of mine came up to me one day and told me she’d had a dream that she was in a bookstore one day and saw a book with my name on it. This was before I told anybody that I loved to write. I think that was when I decided I was very serious about writing.
