Demon Bonds (Psy Demons #1) by Margarita Matos

Blurb:

(Off Goodreads)

“If I have to travel halfway across the planet, I will come for you. If I have to decimate an entire army, I will come for you. If I get my limbs sliced off and I have to crawl, I will come for you. That is non-negotiable.”

Ginny Blackwell and her brother live as slaves to humans until the night she gains her psychic demon power and uses it to take their freedom. Despite her raging power, Ginny wants nothing more than to live a normal life with her brother, a husband and a family. Jerry, a human man shrouded in secrets, sweeps into her life. He promises her everything she wants — protection, love and a home. The trouble is she already bonded herself to the demon Gabriel when she couldn't control her abilities.

While each day Jerry shows her an ideal life on his New England estate each night, Gabriel seduces her in a secret garden and teaches her everything she never wanted to know about being a demon. Being taken care of sounds good in theory, but Ginny isn’t willing to give up on freedom. She’ll have to learn how to fight and decide who is worthy of her trust and her heart.

My Review:

The first book in the Psy Demons series is a riveting fantasy read that sends chills down the reader’s spine.  Slaves to humans, Ginny Blackwell and her brother finally break free when Ginny comes into her demon powers. Now a human named Jerry promises her protection, love and a home, but Gabriel, a demon she’s bonded to, teaches her everything she never wanted to know about being a demon. She isn’t willing to give up on freedom, so she’ll have to learn how to fight and decide who is worthy of her trust and her heart.

This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers on the edge of their seat with suspense, action, drama, dark violence and seduction.  The author uses well written scenes and events to paint vivid images that make the reader feel as if they are part of the story.  The characters are strong, compelling and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning.  Anticipation, thrills and chills build throughout the story as the Ginny tries to decide who to trust and keep her brother safe, but the danger only escalates as she betrayed.

There are sensual seduction scenes by Gabriel and by Jerry as they try to seduce Ginny into siding with them, but sorry folks no romance…yet, just the possibilities of one.  This dark fantasy is all about violence, betrayal, pain and the evil that men do in name of their faith.  This story entices the reader’s emotions and has them empathizing with Ginny in a big way, in fact the reader may be moved to extreme violence on behalf of Ginny if they could get a hold of the evil SOBs.

But the story is also about one young woman’s determination not to be a monster, not to kill, she may be a demon, but who says she has to be evil.  The author has created an intriguing and thrilling world that captures the imagination and overall I enjoyed the story and couldn’t stop reading until I reached the end, however, I will say that Ginny seemed a little too trusting after the things she’s been through, which annoyed me some, but not enough to stop me from wanting to read the next book.

About Margarita Matos:

(Off author’s site)

Hi.  I’m Maggie to my friends.  I love my kids, my husband, my family, Doctor Who, geeky tech toys and Sunday afternoons spent in the sun reading a good book.  I write paranormal romance, sci-fi and fantasy novels because I love them.  I want to see my characters grow and achieve their happily ever after. Even more, I like to explore how kick-ass women become kick-ass and I like to set them up to figure out what really matters in life.

I spend my days as a project manager for Corporate America. Although I enjoy my work,  my greatest passion in life is books and writing.

I constantly struggle with the juggling act that is mothering two beautiful girls, maintaining a happy marriage, working and pursuing my personal interests (writing). As you can probably imagine, I don’t sleep that much and life can get pretty hectic. The world is full of information coming at me all day every day. My mind is whirs at 300 million meters per second. I like to ponder the why of everything and I’m always trying to figure out better ways to live that work for me.

What I Write

I write urban fantasy with a heavy dose of romance . I love heroes that are conflicted and heroines that grow and learn as they fall in love.   I think it’s okay if heroines are passive or tortured or abused at the beginning. The story is supposed to be about growth with a few demons, witches, vampires and the occasional shape-shifter.
