Angelina knows the meaning of a hard life. Searching for a place to belong, she finds more than she bargains for with Devin Clark, a well-known drug dealer, pimp and gang-banger. Angelina Monroe slips from existence, replaced by Angel -- cocaine addict. Jonah Stark has learned to stay clear of town. Instead, he survives atop a mountain on land owned by members of his community -- one where everyone has a secret. Jonah and his people are shapeshifters. Icy roads along the mountain side and a deadly tractor-trailer accident brings Angel's attempt to escape her life and the man who holds her in that life to an abrupt halt. Jonah finds her lying injured and unconscious in the snow and takes her in, but not everyone in the small community of snow leopard shifters puts out the welcome mat for the drug addicted, human female. Beginning the long road to recovery, Angel opens her eyes to life without drugs and Jonah vows to keep her from ever turning back. She stirs something within him, making it impossible to let her go. But, how far will he go when her past returns to claim her? Caution: Contains drug references, hot sauna sex and lots of purring.
My Review:
This book is an intriguing shifter romance that captures the heart.
A cocaine addict, Angel knows the hard meaning of life and now scarred for her life she runs from the well known drug dealer and pimp. Shapshifter Jonah Stark stays away from town and lives on a mountain top with members of his community. When a finds an injured human female, his protective instincts arise and he brings her home and Angel begins to heal with this community of shifters, but will her past come back to haunt her before she can reach happiness.
This steady pace plot has it all, suspense, some action, love, romance, friendship, emotional turmoil, and betrayal. The author brings this story to live with vivid images and intense emotional detail that captures the reader’s imagination and has them feeling as if they are part of the story.
All the characters are strong and compelling and leave the reader wanting to know more. The story contains drug and prostitution references and takes the reader on an emotional journey of hardship and recovery to a happily ever after.
The attraction between Jonah and Angel radiates heat from every page and the well written sex scenes that involves lots of purring and a hot and steamy sauna scene that singes the reader.
While there is Angel’s bad guy that she ran away from, there is also one from the community that acts on jealously and betrays the community. The author blends everything together seamlessly with other smaller side conflicts that adds lots of depth to this entertaining tale.
The author has created an enchanting world of snow leopards, (don’t worry there are some wolves as well), that I couldn’t put down once I started reading. The only thing I was a little disappointed with was there was a couple of issues left unresolved or left open, but that in no way takes away from the main story. I very much liked that the author gave the reader closure on some of the secondary characters from Angel’s past. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this fascinating and entertaining tale and I hope the author intends to write more about this shifter community.
