The Sentinels

Be prepared to enter the dark seductive world of the Sentinels – humans outcast by their hidden abilities, treading the line between life and death, good and evil, pleasure and pain…

Blurb:

(off Goodreads)

Sergeant Duncan O’Conner has seen it all before. A beautiful erotic dancer is found murdered in her home—no suspect, no motive. But there’s one clue: she’s missing her heart. It’s enough to make the hard-bitten Kansas City cop enlist the help of a necro—one of the dead-channeling freaks who live in the domed city of nearby Valhalla. It’s a long shot, but desperate crimes call for desperate measures.

Unlike the other “high-bloods” in Valhalla, Callie Brown considers her abilities a gift, not a curse. But when she reads the dancer’s final thoughts, she senses a powerful presence blocking her vision. This is no ordinary homicide. This is the work of a legendary necromancer who controls souls. A ravenous force that will put Callie’s skills to the test, O’Conner’s career at risk, and both their hearts on the line…literally.

My Review:

The first book in the Sentinels series is an exciting and mesmerizing read.

Hard bitten Kansas City cop Sergeant Duncan O’Connor enlists the help of a necro – one of the dead-channeling freaks from nearby Valhalla – when a beautiful erotic dancer is found murdered and the only clue is that she’s missing her heart.  “High-Blood” Callie Brown senses a powerful presence in the mind of the dancer’s mind and realizes this was on ordinary homicide.  With both their hearts and their lives on line, O’Connor and Callie‘s skills will be put to the test by a legendary necromancer who can control souls.

This steady to fast paced plot engages the reader from the very beginning and keeps their attention to the end.  The reader brings this intriguing story to life with vivid images, action, and bewitching characters that capture the imagination. The author uses well known as well as unique conflicts and drama to give the story lots of depth and ensures that the reader will want to know more.   The action and battle scenes are well written and believable and make the reader feel as if they are right there and part of the story.

The attraction between Callie and Duncan radiates heat from every page and the sex scenes rock the very foundations.  The author brings the romance, passion and emotions to life with intense detail that makes easy to relate to the characters and understand their motivations.

About Alexandra Ivy

(off author’s site)

I’m not exactly sure when I fell in love with books.  Probably on my mother’s knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me.  I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library.
Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries?  Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few.  I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays.  In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I’m not admitting how many) I’m still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy.
For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander.  Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams.  They are truly my heroes.
