Review of The Haunting Season by Michelle Muto

Located in Savannah, Georgia, one of the most haunted cities in the U.S., the fictitious Siler House provides an ideal setting for the scary, macabre story that unfolds in The Haunting Season.  Led by parapsychologist, Dr. Brandt, four teenagers, each with unusual paranormal abilities, participate in a paid study funded by a secret government organization by agreeing to stay in the infamous Siler House for one month to investigate the presence of supernatural entities haunting the…

Review of Grave Bound

“Wow!” was my immediate reaction after finishing Grave Bound. This beautifully written, stirring, and bittersweet love story wrapped me up in such a turmoil of feelings: shock, outrage, pity, frustration, hope, dread, and sadness that I was emotionally exhausted by the end, yet still ready for more of the dramatic story that awaits in Underground.

The plot is built around a commune from hell, a patriarchal society that resembles a mafia organization heavily involved in…

Review of Sanctuary

Sanctuary caught and kept my attention because of the unusual way Creeden incorporates elements from multiple genres and weaves them together into a story unlike anything I’ve ever read. The book has a mix of science fiction, with an alien invasion that instigates a zombie apocalypse and indicates prophesies foretold in Revelations have begun. A church provides sanctuary from the external dangers, and some characters rely upon their faith and prayer to give them strength and keep them…

Review of Chasing Morgan (The Hunted Series # 4) by Jennifer Ryan

I had my first experience with Jennifer Ryan’s work when I read the second book in The Hunted Series, Lucky Like Us. I enjoyed the story and hoped Chasing Morgan would be just as good, and, again, Ryan did not disappoint.  Even though I haven’t read all of the books in the series and characters from previous stories reappear to play minor roles, I was able to follow the plot without confusion or disappointment that I didn’t’ read the series in order. Ryan has written each book…

Review of Cage by Harper Sloan

After reading Axel, the first book in the Corps Security series, I was looking forward to getting Greg Cage’s story. Even though Axel and Izzy’s romance is featured in the first book, Cage is still a main character who plays an important role throughout the story. He is one of Izzy and Dee’s best friends, and fiercely protective of them.

He was there when Izzy finally has the courage to leave her abusive husband. and stands by her side throughout the entire book.  However, Cage…

Review of Hero for Hire

Hero for Hire is a fast-paced, quick, and entertaining read that combines elements of the classic fairytale, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with a zombie apocalypse.  The authors have created archetypal characters that most of us are familiar with who have become survivalists in the aftermath of a wide-spread outbreak that turns those infected into zombies.

It’s hard to miss the allusions to Snow White throughout the plot.  The princess (as Rafe Charming calls…

Review of Breaking Point by Pamela Clare

Breaking Point is the first book I’ve read by this author, and, wow, it was a great romantic suspense!  Now I understand why so many of my friends are fans of the I-Team series.

The plot is fully-developed with non-stop action practically throughout the entire book as journalist Natalie Benoit and U.S. Marshal Zach McBride escape captivity from a demented drug lord, Cardenas, who thrives on rape, torture, and murder. The danger doesn’t stop there, though, once Zach and Natalie…

Review of Cape Cursed

“Isn’t that the way it is with most everything in life. You’re usually crusing along thinking things are just swell and then a storm comes and slaps you silly.”

Parker from Cape Cursed

Cape Cursed is set in the fictitious Cape Destiny at the Outer Banks in North Carolina, which is one of the main reasons I chose to read this romance. It’s a beautiful area that is far less commercialized than many other beaches in NC, and the ocean…

Review of Lady Broke

Lady Broke is a great historical romance set in the Wild West during late 1800’s, with a cast of ruthless outlaws, a handsome bounty hunter bent on revenge, and a strong-willed young lady determined to defy her father’s demand that she settle for a marriage she does not want.

The heroine of the story is Christie who travels to Nevada to help her Uncle Will and Cousin Leigh after the recent death of her aunt. Her offer of assistance also provides a temporary reprieve from her…
