Tell us a little bit about your book.

The Dociles is the first installment in The Secret Archives Trilogy. This is a Young Adult, Dystopian novel with a new twist on the zombie genre.

For hundreds of years, the residents of The Commune lived within the protection of the wall separating them from the frenzied creatures on the other side. Recently, people have mysteriously gone missing. The leaders claimed these people wandered beyond the wall and were attacked by the monsters. Jennie Caraway and her friends soon discover the truth of these disappearances, and it is far more sinister than the lie told.

Have you published before?

Yes, this will be the third story I have published. My debut novel, The Crimson Tree, is a paranormal suspense. A complete list of my works can be found here: https://www.valeriepuri.com/books

Are you currently working on anything else?

I am currently working on a high fantasy series complete with elves, humans, drama, and magic. Just a few days ago, I started the second book of The Secret Archives Trilogy. This book follows the events of The Dociles and continues Jennie’s story.

What is your favorite writing snack?

Popcorn. I love a light and crunch snack. I even have a popcorn machine, because nothing beats fresh popped popcorn.

What gets you in the mood to write?

I enjoy going on evening walks to mull over story ideas. It helps to share my thoughts with my husband and bounce ideas off him. After walking, I like to relax with my laptop and start writing.

Who is your favorite character and why?

My favorite character in The Dociles is Marlene. She has been around a long time and seen things those around her couldn’t possibly fathom. Her stubbornness is only matched by her strength. She’s done some terrible things in her past, but has tried to make up for it as best she can. There is still a lot to tell about her, but I don’t want to give anything away.

Favorite book of all time?

This is like choosing your favorite child! I would have to say that the Harry Potter series is my favorite collection of books. The adventures of Harry and his friends gave me a much needed mental break when I was in school. I still enjoy re-reading them.

I think breakfast says a lot about a person, what is your perfect breakfast?

Eggs, bacon, waffles, orange juice, and coffee. This is a winning combination.

Do you have a favorite period of time that you like to write about or would like to live?

I don’t have a particular time period I like to write about, but I think it would be interesting to live during the Victorian era. There was so much attention to detail in everything they created such as buildings, clothing, and furniture. It would be very interesting to witness the creation of groundbreaking innovations we still benefit from today.

Please tell us in one sentence why we should read your book!

If you are ready for a fresh, new twist on the zombie genre filled with suspense and intrigue, then this book is for you!

The Dociles by Valerie Puri

Walls are meant to keep the monsters out…

Deep in the forest there is a wall where no wall should be. Behind it live the people of the Commune, the last remnant of human kind.

Jennie Caraway has lived behind the wall her entire life, certain that it protects her and her brother from the lemerons, ravenous undead monsters whose only desire is to kill – and feed.

Jennie’s peaceful existence is shattered when she uncovers a secret organization whose purpose threatens to destroy not only Jennie, but her entire world. The Order has a deadly mission, and they will stop at nothing to see it completed.

Jennie and those closest to her must expose the evil truth before they are killed – or worse.

Valerie Puri has always had a lifelong interest in all forms of artistic expression. She has tried her hand at many things, yet she always found her way back to reading and writing. With inspiration everywhere, she finally put pen to paper (or rather, fingers to keyboard) with the intent of publishing her stories.

Writing has always come naturally to Valerie, and for a time she even worked as a technical writer. She continues to hone her skills by having at least one writing project in the works at any given time. Her true passion lies in the freedom that comes with writing the stories that pour from her imagination and real life inspiration.

Valerie believes that the experiences we have in life are just stories waiting to be written.
