Both main characters have lost a parent or parents. How do you see that affect them and their decisions, particularly when it comes to commitment?

Well sam was committed to taking care of his sister, her daughter and the farm. He was in so deep that he didn't  care about his own needs.

It makes you more serious, more adult, take Sam he felt he needed to grow up and take responsibility for the farm and his sister and kid

Sam seems to have taken over the role of parent to his sister and her daughter.  He shows a high level of commitment to everyone and everything in his life.

I think the author hit the nail on the head with the character's behaviors. They were both afraid of commitment and being hurt. Sam took on the role of provider. Meghan shoved her feelings deep down inside so she wouldn't have to deal with them.

Yes only because I think they were both so wrapped up with the chaos surrounding the parents death that they didn't pick their head up and realize they were selling themselves short and letting their life cruise on by with out participating in it.
