Review: The Sparrow and the Hawk (Tales of the Sparrow) by Lynda Miller / Meg Lacey

Blurb:

(Off Goodreads)

Jillie Harte, code name the Sparrow, a documentary film maker is an agent for the NAS (Normal, Abnormal, Strange) Agency. Her assignment-find The Carmaletta Choker before it falls into the wrong hands and destroys the world. Franklin Doherty and associates are suspected of having the choker, and they are definitely the wrong hands! To get close to Franklin, Jillie is producing a film on "Decoration, Fashion and Accessories Throughout History," featuring his antique collection. Her assignment is complicated by Griff Ryland, her new, hot cameraman, who is also looking for the necklace. Griff is an enigma. Is he friend or foe? And why is she so distracted by his "pure sex on a stick" appeal? Like the Sparrow, Griff, aka the Hawk, needs to retrieve the choker. It disappeared from his dimension years before, and his job is to bring it back. Since he can shapeshift into a hawk or a mountain lion at a moment's notice, Griff feels certain of success. But he doesn't bargain for a sassy, sexy redhead-and for his overwhelming urge to settle their differences in bed. Now Griff and Jillie must not only overcome the deadly dark forces who want the choker, but they must also face their developing relationship. And they thought saving the world from evil and chaos was hard!!!!

My Review:

The first book in the Tales of the Sparrow series is an intriguing adventure full of mystery and illusions.  Jillie Harte codenamed Sparrow is assigned to find The Carmaletta Choker before it falls into the wrong hands, but her assignment is complicated by Griff Ryland who is also looking for the necklace.  Griff aka the Hawk needs to bring the choker back to his dimension where it belongs. Both have the impression saving the world from evil is hard work, but it doesn’t even come close to facing their developing relationship.

This steady and smooth flowing plot takes the reader on a mystery solving quest to find a cursed choker that in the wrong hands could destroy the world. Griff and Jillie must wade through evil and their illusions to separate fact from fiction and determine who the bad guys are.  The author uses well written scenes and details to capture the imagination and the strong compelling characters are easily related to and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning.  The reader can’t help but get caught up in all the intrigue, drama and unexplained things that happen on the journey.

The story is full of romance and flirting but with the non-stop sleuthing and fighting of evil Jillie and Griff don’t have a lot of time to focus on their developing relationship, also there are the secrets and secret agendas that get in the way, not to mention the charismatic, but evil bad guy that believes Jillie belongs to him.

The author has created a world full of mystery, abnormal and strange things that keep the reader guessing with lots of twists and turns, although do be aware that the reader can get a little lost in all the intrigue and confusion that occurs and while it is non-stop suspense there is a couple of small instances where the story seems to drag for some reason.

Tales of the Sparrow:

About the Lynda Miller / Meg Lacey

(Off author’s site)

I wrote my first novel in the sixth grade, my own version of a classic historical romance. However, my writing career didn't last. Instead I went into theatre and studied acting and directing for my bachelors and masters degrees before ending up in media as a writer-producer.

Over the years, I've been an actress, director, producer, creative director, CEO, copywriter, creative dramatics teacher, mime, mom, college instructor, and a school bus driver (and are there stories in that experience!) I've created and worked as a Vice President and a CEO in two creative marketing and media companies in the Midwest. I've worked in all media from network cable programming to corporate initiatives; to games and interactive websites. Through it all, I've always returned to writing.

I've written for Silhouette and Harlequin, and you can find my titles available in digital format at any online bookstore.

My new paranormal romance series, Tales of the Sparrow, will be published by Imajinn Books with the first book, The Sparrow and the Hawk, will available September 30, 2012.

I'm also thrilled to join the Samhaim Publishing family with my Million Dollar Mistake, available October 23, 2012. It's the first book in the Million Dollar Men series.

I have three funny, mouthy, independent daughters, who are now all married and creating chaos in someone else's life. My husband is my true hero—he's survived life in a house with four women, two female cats and a female dog and can still remember how to tie his shoes.
