What the book has to say:
Beauty resents being labeled Gift Species. Everyone is way too overprotective, males aren’t even allowed to speak to her and so far true freedom eludes her. Then a big, sexy Species officer mistakes her for the enemy and takes her to the ground.
Shadow is dumbfounded. He has a Gift pinned under him—a big no-no. But Beauty is fascinated and wants to know Shadow a lot better. She is full of newly discovered, unrequited passion and he’s just what she needs to satisfy her curiosity.
For Shadow, sex means pain and revulsion. For Beauty, it was enslavement and ridicule. Two lonely souls who have never known a lover’s touch, together in a cabin in the woods. Each touch, every discovery brings them closer to a life they never thought possible…beyond even their dreams.
What I have to say:
Beauty and Shadow - two lonely souls who have never known a loving touch reach for a life they never thought possible even in their wildest dreams in this captivating paranormal romance.
Shadow and Beauty are two very strong compelling characters that demand the readers attention - they capture the heart and draw you into their story with a surprising ruthlessness. The attraction between Beauty and Shadow burns with a smoldering intensity but their traumatic pasts continuously interfere in their budding relationship and the sex scenes are sweet and steamy. Suspense, excitement, emotional turmoil and romance hold readers hostage in this fast paced and smooth flowing plot.
There's never a dull moment as the relationship struggles to form, an enemy from Beauty's past is determined to get her back and all the Species males (females, too!) that are extremely overprotective keep getting in the way as well, which adds lots of excitement and anticipation to the story keeping readers on the edge of their seat. The well written scenes and details bring this story to life and make it very easy for the reader to feel as if they are part of the excitement and passion and the well thought out events ensure that there is no way the reader can put the book down.
Beauty and Shadow bewitched me from the very beginning and these two lonely souls certainly deserve every happiness. I don't want to say they are my favorites, I mean really they have all stolen my heart but these two characters come are very close to claiming that honor, especially Beauty as she took me completely by surprise and I really can't wait to read the next book in this fantastic series.

Introducing Laurann Dohner:
I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm happily married, I met my dream guy in 1989, and we have 4 children. I live in Nevada and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books - always have been.
No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days. By the time I turned nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I got hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. I started to write my first book after I read a real bomb of one that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best. I thought...I could do better!
I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to attempt to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy. It's a dream come true.
