Review of Winter's Heat (Titan #1) by Cristin Harber

Winter’s Heat is a great start to Cristin Harber’s romantic suspense series.  The book has a dramatic action-oriented beginning that grabs you and doesn’t let go until the end.  The fast-paced storyline is packed with danger, suspense, and passion that really doesn’t slow down into the last few chapters, and by then, I wanted to shake some sense into the stubborn, very sexy, Colby Winters, an elite member of the Titan Group, a security company comprised of several hard-core warriors whose stories have yet to be told.

Colby and Mia’s unlikely alliance takes them on a thrilling but terrifying journey where they must battle with and try to escape from numerous antagonists sent by a Columbian cartel drug and human trafficking lord, Juan Carlos Silva, who desperately wants intel that Mia has found. Mia and Colby have a less than stellar beginning together, as they try to figure out the other’s motives. Mia certainly doesn’t make things easy for Colby and she fights him every step of the way, initially. Colby has a lot to learn about the feisty spitfire of a woman who looks like a sweet, mild-mannered librarian on the surface, but underneath has the determination, fight, and seductive passion that draw him to her like a moth to light.  Both of them form preconceived notions about the other right from the start, and I enjoyed watching their relationship grow as those superficial layers are pulled away revealing their vulnerabilities.

Despite their initial antagonism toward one another, the sexual chemistry is strong, yet I was somewhat surprised by how quickly their first kiss came.  It completely catches Mia off guard, and me as well, but it seems where Colby is concerned, Mia doesn’t hesitate. I tend to like the sexual tension to be drawn out longer leading to more intimate encounters.  Despite this, though, Harber does write some sizzling love scenes for these two characters that unravel the emotional barriers both have already set in place.

I like that the outcome of events wasn’t always predictable and that the series of crises escalate the danger and raise the stakes keeping my interest throughout.  The Titan Team’s offensive attacks are descriptive in painting a verbal picture of the danger and building suspense. I look forward to continuing this series.

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.
