Review: Looks like Trouble to Me (Deuce is Wilder: Troubled Book 1) by Calinda B

Blurb:

(Off Goodreads)

"Last name's Savage -- it means wild and uncontrolled," Jace, a party boy, yacht builder and skilled photographer with a quicksilver temper, tells the pretty waitress at Chica Rios. He's desperate to get laid, but there's something in the way of his driving, overactive libido and the girl standing before him - trouble...big trouble, and a whole lot of it, from the trustifarian prick who works by his side, to his messed up twin sister, to the secret hiding at his house.

He sets out to woo Zoé Dubois, keeping her away from his trouble at home, encouraging her to let go of her inhibitions and live “Savage style,” riding with him on the back of his motorcycle, exploring the great outdoors in a variety of oh, so delectable and naughty ways.

He ends up with way more than he bargained for. Turns out she's the kind of woman who demands the truth...and that's just not the way he rolls. He uses his sexual experience to teach Zoé how to surrender. She leverages his love for her to get him to let her into his troubled world - something he's not used to. Their passionate, erotic, romantic connection keeps them bound together while the trouble he brings threatens to tear them apart at every turn.

My Review:

The first book in a new contemporary romance series is a riveting and heart gripping read.  Yacht builder and skilled photographer Jace Savage sets out to woo Zoe Dubois, but he’s determined to keep his troubles away from her, but she demands the truth. He uses his sexual experience to teach Zoe to surrender and she leverages his love for her into his troubled world.  They are bound together by their passionate romantic connection but his troubles threaten to tear them apart.

This steady paced plot keeps reader on the edge of their seat with suspense, drama, passion and romance.  The author brings the story to life with well written scenes and details that capture the imagination and tension builds throughout Zoe and Jace’s turbulent romance.  The characters are strong, compelling, easily understood and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning. Drama and danger from a supposed friend adds spice and keeps stirring things up throughout the story and doing his best to ruin Jace’s life.

The attraction between Jace and Zoe radiates lots of heat from every page and the frequent sex scenes scorch the reader with fiery passion, but the relationship has lots of obstacles standing in the way. Jace’s past and troubles are something he wants to keep hidden, but relationships are hard enough especially when Zoe’s got issues of her own and his secrets seems to push all the wrong buttons.  The reader can’t help but get caught up in all the drama and emotional turmoil of the story as their relationship is kind of a roller coaster ride.

The story has lots of excitement in the romance and in Jace’s personal life from family and friends which keep readers on their toes and I was totally caught up in it from the very beginning, however there were a few instances when the story seemed a little slow and there is a major cliffhanger, so of course I can’t wait to read the next one.

About Calinda B:

(Off author’s site)

Calinda B was told early on that she should be a writer. She heard frequent praise for her writing, as well as her sense of humor. Scoffing at such admonitions and praise, she went on to pursue her life of adventure, chock full of the things that make up a well-rounded adventurous life: music (yup, she was a singer in a rock and roll band), dance (even performed hip hop in Russia), rock climbing (ever hung from a rock wall a few stories up? Yikes!), fire walking (taught high-ranking Moscow fire officials how to walk the coals), kayaking, scuba diving (she's in love with sharks), travel, and falling in love again and again.
