Blurb:

(Off Goodreads)

In Bath in 1850 a witch is murdered in a ritual granting longevity to four men. What they are not aware of is that she has bestowed the same power to another called Seth to avenge her death.

Cara is a descendant of the witch and fills her days with food with her Irish-themed catering business. Her nights are another matter; they are full of erotic dreams of a mysterious lover, or nightmares with mutilated bodies. So this wasn’t the best time for her Nana to tell her she is coming into her power.

Of the original four immortals, Vincent is the only one left and to stop his own long life from fading he needs another witch to kill. Seth was meant to protect the witch’s descendants from a distance, but with Cara he can’t stay away. He has to make a choice to love Cara, or avenge the original death and possibly die himself. Cara has the fight of her life on when one man comes to kill her, and another to love her.

My Review:

This is a riveting paranormal suspense with lots of intrigue that keeps the reader on the edge.  A witch is killed during a ritual for immortality but she gives Seth immortality as well to bring her killers to justice.  Cara, a descendant of the witch has erotic dreams of a mysterious lover and nightmares of brutal killings. Seth is supposed to protect the witch’s descendants but finds himself falling for Cara. He’ll have to make a choice to love Cara or avenge the original death and possibly die himself.

This steady paced plot keeps readers on their toes with lots of suspense and romance.  The author describes the scenes and characters with vivid descriptions that bring the story to life and capture the imagination.  The characters are strong, compelling, easily related to and ensure that the reader wants to know more and there is lots of spine tingling tension builds throughout the story as the danger to Cara increases and more bodies are found.

The attraction between Cara and Seth radiates from the pages and the sex scenes are hot, steamy and sizzling with passion. The romance is sweet but is fraught with problems like the secret Seth is keeping and some emotional issues they both have.  The reader can’t help but get emotionally caught up in their stories.  Seth grabs attention with his vulnerability over having to live so long and watch people die around and not succeeding with find the witch’s killer.  Cara captures the heart with all the losses she must endure throughout the story which bring tears to the reader’s eyes.  But Cara has a great support system in the charming friends she’s surrounded with that add depth and interest to the story.

While I thought that Cara’s denial of witchcraft was a little over the top, I really enjoyed this intriguing story with its captivating characters and refreshingly different immortality spin and the unique conclusion to the ritual murders.

(Off author’s site)

Maggie Mundy lives in Adelaide, Australia and is a member of Romance Writers of Australia, and the local chapter SARA (South Australian Romance Authors). She recently completed a Bachelor of Arts in Drama and English at Flinders University. She had a short story published in the RWA Topaz Anthology Little Gems in 2010 called Sea and Vines. Over the past year she has had stories on line with Alfie dog in the UK and Antipodean SF in Australia. She has also performed for many years in corporate entertainment for which she wrote her own sketches which probably explains why her head is so full of characters. She loves writing romance but thinks falling in love can be scary, especially in her stories where creatures of the night really exist.
