Blurb:

(Off Goodreads)

Recently divorced author MacKenzie Dillon has lost her writing mojo. When she inherits her great aunt’s haunted house in Virginia, she is determined to make a new start. The creepy old house provides inspiration but at what cost?

Successful architect and paranormal skeptic Justin Kent returns to Penny Hollow to fulfill his father’s dying wish of revitalizing their small town. To do that, he needs the allegedly haunted estate at Summerfield. Mac, the new owner, may be gorgeous and spunky, but she refuses to sell.

These two have a dangerous history that spans the ages, but will they discover the truth in time to save their lives?

My Review:

This is an intriguing stand alone paranormal story full of suspense and ghosts.

Author MacKenzie Dillion has recently divorced and has lost her writing mojo, so when she inherits her great aunt’s haunted house in Virginia, she’s determined to make a new start.  Successful architect Justin Kent had plans to use the Summerfield house for revitalizing the town of Penny Hollow, only Mac refuses to sell and he finds himself quite taken with the spunky but vulnerable MacKenzie. He’s a paranormal skeptic, but he certainly notices when something strange starts happening to Mac and they realize that they have a dangerous history that spans the ages, one that could very cost them their lives.

This steady paced plot has lots of tension building suspense that keeps the reader on their toes. The author grabs the attention with vivid images and strong bewitching characters that are easily related to.  The reader shivers in delicious anticipation as the author brings the ghosts to life with great details that capture the imagination.

The attraction between MacKenzie and Justin can be felt from every page, but the relationship is fraught with emotional turmoil and ghostly interference.  The reader can empathize with Mac and understand her emotions regarding relationships, while also understanding Justin’s side of things. Both characters grab a hold of the reader and keep them reading until the very end.

The author has created a very charming and intriguing little town in Virginia and along with the inhabitants of Penny Hollow inspires the imagination and leaves the reader wanting to know more.

I really enjoyed this spine tingling and thrilling ghostly tale and while I was unable to determine if Heather Long intends to write more stories in the haunted town of Penny Hollow, I certainly hope so.  I would love to know how the town achieves it goals, but also I was quite taken with the rest of the Kent family and would like to know their stories as well.

About Heather Long:

(Off author’s site)

National bestselling author, Heather Long, likes long walks in the park, science fiction, superheroes, Marines, and men who aren’t douche bags. Her books are filled with heroes and heroines tangled in romance as hot as Texas summertime. From paranormal historical westerns to contemporary military romance, Heather might switch genres, but one thing is true in all of her stories—her characters drive the books. When she’s not wrangling her menagerie of animals, she devotes her time to family and friends she considers family. She believes if you like your heroes so real you could lick the grit off their chest, and your heroines so likable, you’re sure you’ve been friends with women just like them, you’ll enjoy her worlds as much as she does.
