Forgiveness For My Mate
Sanctuary For My Mate Book 1
by Terri A. Wilson
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Tatum’s perfect, well-planned life crashed one piece at a time. After small mistakes led to bigger ones, she’s ready to give up and walk away from the only dream she ever knew. A trip to a New Mexico retreat sounds like the best way to pull herself together. Then she met Connor, a hot falcon shifter who shows her a whole new world full of possibilities she never imagined. Connor’s falcon claimed her at first glance. Now faced with her inner demons, can she learn to forgive herself and stop the cycle of self-destruction? Will his love be enough to calm the anxiety and fears that prevent her from finding the life she never knew she wanted?

The first book in the Sanctuary for My Mate series is a stirring read that captures reader’s attentions and refuses to let go. Tatum and Connor are two strong characters that easily draw readers to them while providing readers with traits that make them come to life. The romance is sweet and the chemistry between them sizzles with lots of heat but this relationship is not one that will be hurried along as Tatum not only has some emotional issues that she has to overcome but she’s facing a reality that she may not can accept which keeps readers holding their breath with suspense as they await the conclusion. The story is fast paced and has some exciting events throughout to keep readers on their toes. The author has created a fascinating world for her characters one that while supernatural is natural and inspires readers’ imaginations.

EXCERPT 1

Connor shrugged and disappeared behind the corner again and returned empty-handed. “So, what do you do in the outside world?”

“I worked.”

“You must have worked in the medical field to spend the day with Hank. What were you? A nurse?”

“No. For your information, I worked as a doctor in an emergency room.” She crossed her arms and glared at him daring him to make a smart-ass remark.

He held a hand over his heart and bowed at the waist. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to piss you off. I guess that was rather sexist of me to assume you were a nurse.”

“It happens all the time,” she said with clenched teeth.

“I bet it does. It’s kind of like people had a hard time believing what I did before coming here.”

Tatum watched his shoulder flex as he opened the jars of mayonnaise and mustard. She didn’t understand what was drawing her to him, but she could not focus on making a sandwich.

“I was a model.”

She snickered. “A model? Like an underwear model?” Oh crap. Now the only thing she could picture was him in nothing but underwear.

He put down his food and wiped his mouth with a napkin. “Yes, and I modeled for other things too.”

“For real?”

“Is it that hard to see me as a model?”

Is he flirting?

“Let me see. Step away and walk toward me like you were on a runway.”

He spit out his drink laughing so hard. “Are you kidding me?”

“No.” She crossed her arms and leaned her hip against the counter. “Maybe do a little Magic Mike, just for fun.”

“Is that a challenge?” Connor crossed his arms.

Tatum nodded.

“Challenge accepted.” Connor pulled out his phone, cued up a sultry, techno-beat song, and walked away. He unbuttoned his shirt a little and untucked it from his jeans then ran his fingers through his hair to make it stand up a little more.

Oh, this will be good.

Tatum watched as he transformed into a runway model complete with a pouty frown and a come-fuck-me look in his eyes. As much as she resisted not focusing on his hard chest showing through his shirt, her face warmed as her nipples grew hard and tingled. She feigned annoyance but wanted to rip off his clothes.

He pumped his pelvis against her pushing her off balance. He squatted down, put his hands behind her knees, and ran them up the sides of her body. When he stared into her eyes, she couldn’t breathe. When he leaned in, her eyes closed with no hesitation, his warm breath on her lips.

The song ended, and he stepped back. “So, do you believe me now?”

It took Tatum a minute to control the electricity shooting throughout her body. “Uh, excuse me?” She shook her head. “I didn’t hear what you said.”

“Oh, really? Well, do you believe me now?”

Embarrassed, she turned away and focused on making her dinner. “I’ve seen better.”

He stood next to her and spread mayonnaise on his bread. “Oh, come on. I was hot, and you know it.”

“Whatever.” Tatum took a bite from her sandwich.

Harmony For My Mate
Sanctuary for My Mate Book 2

How do you choose between two women, when only the love of both will bring you harmony?

Cameron was born a falcon shifter, but when his arrogance prompted a total disregard to safety, he was attacked by a bear shifter. Living with two predatory animals who want control makes it hard to find peace. When he meets the new chef, Eliza, his bear recognizes his mate, but his falcon longs for Skylar. When an opportunity presents itself that will make all the three happy, Eliza’s heart fights against her traditional upbringing. Faced with a choice, she retreats into fear and uncertainty. Skylar knows her love is not confined to a predetermined set of societal norms. She has to break through the walls Cameron and Eliza built, but that’s not easy when Cam’s heart is split in two and Eliza refuses to believe she deserves happiness. Can three unique hearts turn their back on tradition and forge a new type of bond in order to bring harmony to their life?

The second story is this fascinating new series is kind of cutesy and whimsical but at the same time gritty and thought provoking which compels readers to settle in and read this story from start to finish. Harmony is hard to achieve within a group but it’s really hard to achieve within yourself and this romance explores that concept from all perspectives as these strong, bold characters captures readers’ hearts with all the emotional turmoil that comes from trying to achieve that state. The love triangle that Cameron, Elia and Skylar find themselves has them questioning everything they know and really confusing them which keeps the emotional turbulence at an all-time high which keeps readers in suspense of the all-important happily ever after for this threesome and the unique situation they are trying to untangle. There quite a few exciting surprises and twists to keep readers guessing as the suspense keeps readers on the edge and since the author does a great job of bringing her world and her characters to life, it’s easy for readers to imagine each and every scene.

EXCERPT 2

She pulled away and saw Skylar in a new way. This woman, who was at least ten years her junior, showed more wisdom and compassion than Eliza knew possible. Something in her eyes tugged at an intense level of passion. High on emotion, she leaned in and kissed Skylar’s full mouth. Skylar’s soft lips parted as she pulled Eliza against her. Years of practiced decorum screamed in Eliza’s head as she cupped Sky’s face with her hands. The contrast between the softness of this woman’s mouth and the strength of Cameron’s elicited an emotion she was unprepared to experience. In a moment of panic, she pulled back and glanced at the floor to hide her embarrassment.

“Oh, um, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that. I don’t know what came over me.” She reached for the cookie plate, found a container, and put the cookies away.

“Don’t be sorry. I’m not. It was a genuine emotion from you and I’m glad I was here to share it with you.”

Eliza tilted her head, confused. “I don’t understand. You and Cameron are together. Right?”

“Yes, we are. Sorta.”

Eliza stood in front of the lady with an opened, unsure what to say.

Skylar snickered. “I understand your confusion.” She scanned the kitchen. “There’s no alcohol at the retreat, but please tell me you have a stash of something stronger than coffee.”

Eliza winked. She went to a planter sitting on her desk, pulled out the silk plant, and produced a bottle of vanilla vodka.

Skylar laughed. “You are too much. You hide cookies and sweets all over the place for people to search and find, but vodka sits in almost plain sight on your desk?”

Eliza nodded. “And as far as I know, no one’s found it.” She put down two glasses and filled them with the tawny liquid. “I’ve been working on Caleb to change the alcohol situation around here. I mean he’s got his stash of wine and Cameron has his stash of beer. He’s worried it will go against the image he wants for this place. It’s stupid. A good glass of wine enhances a meal.”

“Caleb is a little stiff. I have a hard time seeing him and Wednesday together, but they seem happy.”

“Yes, they do. Sometimes opposites attract. I don’t know him that much on a personal level, but I get the impression he would be worse without her.”

“I knew him before he met Wednesday. You’re right.” She held up her drink. “To Wednesday.”

They clinked glasses and Eliza added, “To Wednesday.”

An awkward silence fell between the two ladies. Eliza wanted to say something but had no idea where to start.

“You don’t have to be afraid of what happened,” Skylar said.

“I don’t know what came over me. I mean, I don’t go around kissing girls. I’m not that kind of person.” She covered her mouth with her hand worried her tone might have offended Skylar.

“And just what kind of person kisses women?”

“Um, I mean, uh…”

Skylar tipped her glass back and set it on the butcher block. “Relax, Eliza. I’m joking with you. It’s okay to say lesbian. It’s not a bad word.”

“Is that what you are?”

“What?”

Eliza’s mouth twitched. “What you said.”

“What did I say?”

“You know, what you called yourself.” She furrowed her brow.

“Does that word make you uncomfortable?”

“No.” Eliza shifted on her stool.

“Then say it.”

“Fine. Whatever. Are you a lesbian?”

“No.” Skylar added more alcohol to their glasses.

“I don’t understand. Did our kiss make you feel uncomfortable?”

“No. As much fun as it is to watch you squirm, let me help you out. I’m in love with love. I’m attracted to people based on my need to love and be loved. Some people call me a bisexual, but that label feels too narrow for me. I don’t go out and have sex with any and everyone. When I first became sexual, I was attracted to females. My family hated it but learned to accept it despite our priest damning me to hell. Then I met Wyatt’s father. He identified as a homosexual, but our connection grabbed me and wouldn’t let me go. Though we were compatible in bed, it didn’t go beyond that no matter how hard we tried. My parents were elated because they thought they cured me.” She used air quotes emphasizing the word cured. “I understand that love isn’t as simple as we’d all like to believe. Intimacy is the most passionate way to share that love.”

“How do you identify?” This subject was new to Eliza and though it challenged some of her learned ideas, she respected her friend.

“If I had to label myself, I’m what you might consider a pansexual, but even that term is debated everywhere. So, I don’t label myself. It’s not something I need to do to feel better.”

“Are you attracted to Cameron?”

Skylar finished her drink and poured another one. “Very much so, but you already knew that, didn’t you?”

Eliza nodded.

“So, are you?”

Eliza nodded again. “It makes little sense to me.”

“What doesn’t make sense?”

“Well, for one thing, he’s way younger than me. And for another thing, I don’t want to come between the two of you.”

“Eliza, age is just a number. And you can’t come between us if you are a part of us.”

Eliza poured herself another drink. “Bonding was never an important consideration in my family, but I’ve learned enough to know it’s between two people.”

“That’s what I’ve always thought too. But I’m just as drawn to you as I am to Cameron.”

Eliza blushed and batted her eyes. “You are?”

“You’re cute when you play coy,” Skylar teased. “Love and sex are different. I don’t think any of us are ready to commit to love, but it might be worth exploring.” She held up her glass for a toast.

Eliza didn’t understand the power of love, but something pulled her to these two. She met Skylar’s glass. Maybe it was worth exploring.

INTERVIEW WITH TERRI A. WILSON

What is something unique/quirky about you?

I like to eat my food in even servings. Like for instance, I would rather eat two cookies instead of one and I get twitchy if you serve me three. I also constantly rearrange my eggs in the carton to keep it balanced and I hate when there is an odd number of eggs.

Tell us something really interesting that's happened to you!

In 2009, I had my second daughter at home. My first delivery wasn’t bad, but my experience at the hospital was less than desired. The second delivery went so well, I would have another one in an NY Minute. I made a lousy pregnant woman. I didn’t really like being pregnant, but the actual delivery was awesome and I’d do it again.

What are some of your pet peeves?

I really hate people who are inflexible and refuse to see another point of view. I also can’t stand to be scared.

Where were you born/grew up at?

I was born in San Antonio Texas, but I spent most of my life in California. I’ve lived in North Carolina since 2006.

If you knew you'd die tomorrow, how would you spend your last day?

Holding my husband’s hand.

Who is your hero and why?

Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She’s just flippin’ awesome.

What kind of world ruler would you be?

Not a very good one because I get bored easily, I hate dealing with conflict, and I expect people to do the right thing.

What are you passionate about these days?

Writing, coffee, and chocolate

What do you do to unwind and relax?

I love my bed. My room is dark and we try to keep it cold. For me, I love to just lie in my bed with the lights out. I don’t really sleep, but it’s quiet and I can think.

How to find time to write as a parent?

I have my laptop opened all the time and I use multiple devices that sync together.

Describe yourself in 5 words or less!

Sarcastic, Loyal, Foul-mouthed, Creative, Clever

When did you first consider yourself a writer?

I still don’t because it hasn’t sunk into my head yet. When I see my name on a book, I have a hard time connecting that it’s my name.

Do you have a favorite movie?

Yes, many. Practical Magic and Steele Magnolias being at the top.

Which of your novels can you imagine made into a movie?

When I write, the story plays out in my head like a movie. So I guess all of them.

What literary pilgrimages have you gone on?

I went to Pompola, Spain for the running of the bulls and to visit the bar where Hemingway spent a lot of his time.

As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?

Dragon because it’s fierce and beautiful at the same time.

What inspired you to write this book?

It may sound cliché, but there are a lot of characters who live in my head and they fight for dominance. Whoever wins the round when I start a new story gets their story told and then I just let them tell it.

What can we expect from you in the future?

I want to explore combining historical fiction with paranormal stories.

How did you come up with the concept and characters for the book?

They speak to me.

Where did you come up with the names in the story?

Top 100 Baby Names and the Coke bottles that come out in the summer.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

Researching

Tell us about your main characters- what makes them tick?

Skylar is the most confident person I know. Eliza needs acceptance and can cook. Cameron has to accept he’s different and that’s okay.

Who designed your book covers?

B Creative Designs

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

I’d like to see it a little longer.

Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?

Yes. I have a hard time focusing for long periods of time.

If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?

Skylar- Margot Robbie (but with dark hair)
Eliza- ???? Sarah Shahi
Cameron- Alex Pettyfer (based on looks only, I’ve never seen him act)

Anything specific you want to tell your readers?

When you read Harmony For My Mate or any books from that series, I hope you connect with the characters and they help you examine your own life.
Don’t assume it’s a typical menage story. Be open to examining your accepted ideas of love.

How did you come up with the name of this book?

It’s one of the words I think of when I think about the idea of sanctuary.

What is your favorite part of this book and why?

Writing the scenes with Skylar and Eliza because I had to look at love in a new way.

If you could spend time with a character from your book whom would it be? And what would you do during that day?

Eliza- she’s a chef

Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?

There’s a little bit of me in every female character I write and a little of my husband in every male character I write. Other than that there is no one specific.

Do your characters seem to hijack the story or do you feel like you have the reigns of the story?

Characters

Convince us why you feel your book is a must-read.

Because this book will move you and help you escape your world for a little bit.

Have you written any other books that are not published?

Yes.

If your book had a candle, what scent would it be?

Clean Cotton
