Summer Sinks is the second release in the Bloodborne series. We follow Dalia to the States as she and her inner dragon quest, one for normalcy and the other for family.
Where did the idea for the book come from?
Funny story, that one. I was running a short story contest for a bookclub and a friend commented that she wished that there were more books featuring Mayan lead character. By the time I finished the tiny story I was hooked. It is now to be a 5 book story run as well as a secondary series based the origins of the legend that it all revolves around.
Who and what inspire you to write?
I have been starting but not finishing books from a very young age. My grandmother was a teacher and my mother always wanted to write. They both passed without finishing their stories. I decided that I would break that trend.
Each author has his or her own inspiring journey. How did you begin writing?
When I started running an online bookclub the wonderful indie authors there really encouraged me to finish the stories. The first few books are still squirreled away, unfit for publishing.
What has been the most pleasant surprise about writing?
That people enjoy the stories so much. It is really a wonderful thing to have people reach out to me and tell me that.
How about an unexpected down side?
Typos! I can edit and edit and edit and still find a one in a book a year later.!
Do you have any writing rituals?
Music on repeat is really the only thing that is consistent. Sometimes just a single song on repeat.
Do you write your books in order?
Always. I have all 5 books in both series plotted out before I could even start writing the second book. It helps me layer the details into the books.
What is on your writing playlist for this book?
One Direction, don’t judge me.
Any favorite writing snacks?
I can’t eat and type… or drink and type.
What advice would you give writers who aspire to be published?
Finish the book. Ask other authors if they can suggest groups (in person and online) to join to help hone their craft.
Are you working on anything new right now?
Book Three! Wolf Bites should be out this summer. I already have Dragon Keepers (the first book in the series) in draft and hope to get that one published this spring.
Who is your favorite character in your current book?
The dragon, always the Dragon. Celesta Rose is so much fun to write!
What is your favorite book of all time?
This is an impossible question! I am a huge Ilona Andrews fan. Jim Butcher, the list goes on. I just refuse to choose! My favorite book series I read in this last year was the Court of Roses and Thornes.
Tell us in one sentence why we should read your book.
Because, you need to meet a Dragon who has waited 5000 years to see you. But really, it is a fast fun and addictive read.
A simple Mayan girl. A powerful spirit. A bloodthirsty monster. All leading to a desperate quest. When the Mayan calendar ended some people scoffed while others joked and a few waited for the end of the world. After living half her life apart from her native people, Dalia no longer believes in the supernatural and monstrous things that the final cycle predicted. But unbelief is not protection. Going home draws her into a fight against mythical creatures, limitless power and a battle for humanity’s survival. Can Dalia balance an outsider’s knowledge and tribal wisdom to give the world a fighting chance? Or will she choose to stay blind and let the world collapse around her? Reign Drops is the first book in The Bloodborne Series, a saga of urban fantasy novels. If you like tenacious heroines, Mayan legends, and new twists on magical beasts, then you'll love Chris Patt's spellbinding series. Buy
